About Cowichan District Hospital

The Cowichan Maternity Clinic (CMC) operates within 2North, the maternity ward at Cowichan District Hospital (CDH). The ward includes two birthing rooms, one operating room, and four postpartum rooms, offering a safe and comfortable birthing experience. Our nursing staff is highly skilled, supportive, and deeply committed to patient care.

Exciting changes are on the horizon! A new Cowichan District Hospital is set to open in 2027, featuring expanded maternity facilities, including a Level 1-2 nursery, to better serve growing community needs.

Our Service to the Community

CMC follows a hybrid care model, balancing clinic-based and hospital-based responsibilities. Our team—comprising physicians, a nurse, registered midwives and a social worker—provides prenatal care, in-hospital support, and postpartum home visits.

We accommodate flexible schedules, allowing providers to balance CMC duties with other professional commitments. Additionally, 24/7 OBGYN, Anesthesia, and Pediatric coverage ensures seamless, round-the-clock support for our patients, with specialist colleagues who are always ready to assist.
